Morning Detox Tea (Tisane)

One day the Herb Shoppe's owner Laura was perusing the internet, and came across a great "Morning Detox Tea" or tisane by a leading tea authority Kathy YL Chan.

The tea is described as being a "bright concoction with notes of spice and heat," and Laura says the ingredient all have many benefits. The ginger soothes digestion, tumeric supports the liver, cayenne warms the body and boosts metabolism, and cinnamon is used as an anti-inflammatory and blood sugar stabilizer.

Here's what you'll need and how to make it:

Ingredients:
  • 1 inch piece of ginger
  • 1 tsp tumeric
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne (can use liquid cayenne as well)
  • spoonful of local honey
  • squeeze of lemon
How to Brew:
  1. Peel ginger and slice thinly, then smash the ginger.
  2. Add ginger to a sauce pan with 6 cups of water. Bring water and ginger to a boil then simmer for 10 minutes.
  3. Add cinnamon sticks, tumeric, cayenne. Simmer for 10 minutes more.
  4. Strain tea into a mug
  5. Stir in honey and a squeeze of lemon
This recipe yields about 6 servings depending on your mug, so you can enjoy in a morning or throughout the day!
